Happy Mother’s Day
May 14, 2013
Leading up to Mother’s Day, I was concerned about all the advertising I saw for our special day. Ads encouraging families to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on the mom in their life. Now, don’t get me wrong, I would love a trip to New York as much as the next woman, but doesn’t this seem to be a BIT of overkill.
We, as a family, are trying to cut down on our materialism, and I guess I am naive enough to believe the rest of the world feels the same way. There are mothers all around the world who don’t have a Mother’s Day to celebrate, they are working too hard to ensure their children have food in their bellies and a roof over their heads. These women deserve way more acclaim than we do for the hard work they do of raising their babies.
So this past Mother’s Day, I was treated to a wonderful breakfast, made by my wonderful husband, hand made cards and plant holders (complete with plants) from the kids and a few snuggles with our dog. Then I took a few hours to myself to go horseback riding with a group of like-minded (aka: horse crazy) moms. We went for our normal Family Sunday swim, and hubby made a yummy dinner. When I stop and take stock of all I have, I couldn’t have asked for more.
Whether you mother your own children, or a herd of them + your own, and/or honor YOUR mother for all she did, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, and that you continue to receive the love and fulfillment that being a mother, and having a mother, brings. Its the best gift in the world.
