How to squeeze 25 hours out of a 24 hour day.

not-enough-hours-in-the-day-250x300Sometimes I wish the days were longer, that there were more than 24 hours in a day. There is just so much to do, and not enough time to do it in! And, a girl needs her beauty sleep – so what to do?    Make every minute count, and use those “free” minutes to get stuff done.

For example, on Tuesdays I take my daughter to ballet at the same time my son is at swimming. I’ve discovered about myself, that I really, really don’t like walking our dog in the evening after the kids are in bed. So, I use that time to walk her. The kids are happy at their sports, I get to enjoy a lovely walk in the LIGHT (this is key for me), and at 6:30, we all go home happy!

To plan dinner on these crazy nights, I take full advantage of the timer settings on my oven and/or my crock pot. Meatloaf was on the menu for tonight (my kids eat it like its candy), so we made the meatloaf up in advance, then set the timer and automatic oven, popped the meatloaf in the oven, and dinner was done when we got home! Now if I could only figure out a way for ALL the dishes to get done and put away while I’m out. Gotta love my hubby, who was the magic dish fairy tonight.

I pretty much ALWAYS have at least 4 tabs going at any given time when I’m working. Facebook, Twitter, email, Pinterest and Google all give me ideas for future blog posts, things I want to Pin, emails I need to write or answer. Sure, I get lost in the time suck that is facebook, but more often than not, I find something that is relevant to my business and/or my life, so it is time well spent.

At home, especially when cleaning or tidying, I tend to bumble bee from room to room. One object leads to another room, where I notice the shelves need tidying, which leads me to the bathroom…. you get the picture. My system isn’t for everyone, but at the end of 30 or 40 mins, I have accomplished more than I would have had I stayed in one room.

You might ask, where is the down time, or time to relax? Well, by using all those “spare” minutes during my working day, I have bought myself extra minutes in the evening, which is when I really need to unwind anyways. Wine anyone?
