4 Steps to a Successful New Year’s Resolution
January 6, 2015
It’s a New Year. For so many of us, this means new goals, new plans, maybe even a New Year’s resolution (or two). However, did you know nearly 60% of people give upon their New Year’s Resolution within 6 months, and may make the same resolution 10 times without success?
Did you make plans and resolutions for 2014, only to find yourself not having fulfilled them again?
What goals do you have for 2015, and what plan do you have in place to make them a reality?
In order to make your goals a reality, there are four simple steps you can take right now to get on the right track.
1. Write them down. This seems like a no-brainer, but so many people don’t! Also, post them where you are going to see them EVERY DAY. We have a vision board posted on our fridge to keep us on track. One of our goals for January 2015 is to re-do the vision board, as some of the goals we had set out previously have already been achieved, and we have big, new lofty goals for this year.
2. Create a plan. A goal without a plan is really just a dream or wish. Want to raise the rates of your dayhome to $1000/month? What will you need to do to ensure you are providing value for that rate increase? Take courses? Plan more specific activities? Use a specific program or philosophy, such as Reggio? Make your plan, and stick to it.
3. Measure. Check back in with yourself every month. How close are you to your goal? What steps have you taken to get there? Do you need to adjust your goal or timeline? For example, can the community in which you live and work manage a rate increase to $1000/month? Do you need to look further afield for other families? Should your rate increase be more incremental?
4. Celebrate. Once you have achieved your goal, be sure to celebrate it! Earned extra income? Treat yourself to a night out, or that new pair of shoes you’ve always wanted. Lost the 15 pounds you’ve had hanging around? Buy that new (smaller size!) pair of jeans.
Four simple, yet effective, steps to making 2015 the year you’ve always wanted!
